Soon after moving to New York City I set out to get to know Manhattan in a manner suited to a man familiar with exploring the ground at my feet, & on foot:  I spent less than $10 in public transport in the course of a week, walking and taking one macro photograph at each location I felt merited documentation, hoping to capture something meaningful to that place.

These images, which I call micro-landscapes, often portrayed the city's physical and ecological underpinnings in a microcosm: typically detritus that had fallen to earth, to be reduced to dust by our footfalls or recycled by microbes without anyone ever stooping to notice. Below I present one sampling of these miniature vistas that show us New York, underfoot.
